Cher, Why can't people respect the animals? Is it so hard. Gosh!!But as my Mother used to say, " You're never too old to learn something new". I didn't know Gorillas had Immune Systems like us. So this was my Biology lesson for today.Thanks.

I've been against "the viewing of animals" for years. I have also said that something would happen one day that was going to be unfortunate because it would be caused by a human being too close to an animal. Steve Irwin paid with his life for inserting himself "up close and personal" with too many wild creatures.

Remember the OUTRAGE the other day when I commented on the man who went back to see the gorilla he raised? Human contact is ALWAYS bad for gorillas!

But--having said is a valuable resource for these poor countries. They need to find a good balance. Guards, trackers, hotels, guides, etc....these all bring in revenue. If only countries like Rwanda and Uganda appreciated that and encouraged young people to get into the field!

I agree Pam ! It's up to our young people to see that the future of these , and ALL animals , is secure. It only makes sense that the farther away you are from a wild animal , the better they'll feel !! I know tourists ( and the jobs they bring along with them ,) is good for the people . But it shouldn't be at the expense of the gorillas well being !

To Pat P....Steve Irwin was a media "star," but anyone who knows how to handle animals CRINGED whenever he came on TV he would toss snakes and lizards to the floor, so they would respond and HE would look BRAVE.

I know many people admired him because he did focus attention on animals....but his handling techniques were ABYSMAL!
