This is absoultly horrible, this is why we need tougher laws everwhere now on animal rights....I'm so sad for her to have to die at the hands of abusers and so sad for her left behind family! The picture makes me feel ill, sad and mad, they need to be caught and punished, and the rest of her poor family protected and insured safety!

These delinquents, I don't care whose father's son or guards or whoever did it. It is the most horrendous crime, and they must be fired and punished even though corruption is not going to let this happen and I hope somehow they get and expediently, they are the scum of the earth, Karma at least please blast them. I'll try to send the message which has been difficult for me to do of how enraged I am. Lightning should get them.

Dear Cher
Unfortunately this news has been superceeded by the sad death of one of the Jhurjhura tigresses cubs that was killed by a male tiger from her previous litter. This is yet another example of the ineptitude of authorities who were supposed to have completed an enclosure around the Rajbhera area of Bandhavgarh where the cubs are located. The enclosure is now finished and as far as I am aware the 2 remaining cubs are well and being fed regularly by the Forest Dept. However, there is still no positive result on the prosecution of the people who killed the tigress and its beginning to look more and more like a cover up. More can be found by following the link below. I hope that readers of your wonderful column will write to the Indian authorities expressing their concern that the culprits of this terrible and unnecessary tragedy are still at large.

Cher, thank you for this tragic tale. A female tiger defends her cubs against all, including male tigers. I did see the movie called"Living Free" in which 2 cubs faced the same problem. It was not easy reacquanting them with the wild. If any of the cubs are male, they must stay away from the male tiger that is violelently territorial..Do you have a mailing or email address for the proper officials in India?

Truly beautiful creature, the rarest of beings...a breeding and healthy tigress, killed so senselessly to show bravado and machismo! But what bravery have you shown? You and your 'friends' have rammed a critically endangered tigress with your stupid jeeps until she was so damaged she died from her injuries. For what? I'll tell you why you little cretin, because you could. Because your daddy is a big shot and that gives you the right to do anything you like! The damage you did that day to a critical tiger population is immeasurable! No doubt you will escape prosecution because of your daddy's connections.

Tigers and other endangered animals should be protected by IRONCLAD international laws. A force similar to the UN peace keepers should protect them where they are threatened and perpetrators should be brought to justice regardless of who their daddies are! The senseless killing will never stop, the world is a different place now and as the search for land and resources gets more critical, the urgency to get money and survive at any cost will escalate too. We had better start to adopt different strategies NOW if we want anything at all to survive the greed and stupidity of humans!

Susan Duncan (25)

What a horrible act of cowardice. These subhumans don't deserve the due process of law, any resultant punishment could never be adequate. In a fair world, these unfeeling, antisocial jerks would simply disappear. For supposedly "superior" beings, they displayed the dirtiest, ugliest, basest of all "human" traits, terrorizing and killing a fellow living being for absolutely no reason. Shame, shame, shame on these subhuman creatures. May Karma dole out the justice the poor tiger will be denied in this life and may the deranged perpetrators rot in hell for all eternity.

What a dreadful way to die, a beautiful Mum, leaving 3 small cubs. The killer should be shot! When are we going to change our laws to protect our native animals? Vote someone into power who has compassion for all living creatures, and who really cares about our world and our future.

The perpetrators of this stupid, sensless, killing of this beautiful Tigress have to be held accountable for her cruel, agonising death, how is this allowed ?I suppose they were bored so they thought they would stir up the animals, and one of these idiots is the son of a minister,if he was my son I would feel so ashamed that my child could commit such a heinous crime, her death must not go unpunished .

Letter Sent:

Photographer Mike Vickers (, arrived at Bandhavgarh on the 22nd of May to photograph the Jhurjura tigress together with her 3 cubs. However, he was told that only days earlier Forest Department staff, a Ministerís son and others had illegally entered the park in jeeps for a "night drive" and had mortally wounded the tigress, repeatedly hitting her with a vehicle until she was almost immobile. She was found the next day slumped by a local watering hole.

A CBI enquiry into this heinous crime is needed immediately so that those who committed the offence can be brought to justice and punished. There are less than 1,000 female tigers in the wild.

The tragedy of loosing this tigress, there is now the matter of the cubs to consider.

It is believed that the park authority is currently providing food and limited protection for the cubs, however, the future of the cubs looks desperately uncertain. There is talk about sending the cubs to a facility in a safe area within the reserve where two other orphaned tigers are currently being prepared for release into the wild, it is vitally important that this happens very soon. It would be appalling if these tigers were to end up being killed or put in a zoo.

Please use your power to see that these young tigers remain in the wild.

So sad to think any human being could do such a heinous act against an innocent animal. This animal wasnt causing any harm, she was in her own territory, taking care of her babies !
