this is relatively near me and i was happy to see the mayor of glendale on the news telling people that we need to learn to live with coyotes. i think the couple that got this ball rolling need to pack up and move into a high rise.

TY Cher N&S. Like Constance F, 13 years in Tucson AZ allowed me so many opportunities to see, and HEAR, these beautiful animals. They are intellgent, funny, easy to deal with and quite shy of humans (good thing).
A wonderful addition to your animal library is "God's Dogs" by Hope Ryden.

Well this is cool since I didn't think there were any coyotes in Glendale Ca. This is also where an aunt and uncle of mine lived for 50 yrs. (both passed away now). Coyotes themselves won't harm people.

Humans are 'eating away' at wild habitats paving the way for what - malls????? is this insane or what?
Where are these coyotes supposed to go? it was their home long before it was ours !
I do send prayers for our 'little brothers' in need !

I wonder how many would feel this way had the coyotes eaten one of your beloved pets as it did the couple "who got this rolling"?
Coyotes are certainly intelligent and beautiful animals, but are not quite the harmless tranquil animals portrayed here.
While coyote attacks on humans are rare, they do happen and are increasing in many parts of the country. California averages almost 10 coyote attacks on humans per year which is double what it was a decade ago. In North Carolina a coyote viciously attacked a 3-year old girl while playing in her yard with her 6 year old sister. The coyote was so determined to drag the little girl into the wood to eat her that her mother had to use an oar to beat the animal away from her children. Even then the coyote would not leave and the father shot and killed it. Rabies tests did not show evidence of the disease, but the little girl was still treated for it.
Two coyotes killed a 19 year old female hiker in Nova Scotia in 2009. While she was hiking alone she was close enough to other hikers for them to hear her screams. When authorities arrived they were still attacking the girl and she was still alive.
Coyotes do regularly attack dogs and cats and have taken several out of people's yards in my town in the last few years.
And for those of you who claim that humans are entering coyote habitats, actually the opposite is true. Coyotes are not native to North Carolina or to Nova Scotia. Their range has expanded greatly in the last century.

Signed with pleasure. It's odd that we humans can't learn to live with mother nature and her wild animals. We always have to spread us out all over the world and then kill everything that comes our way. It's horrible!

People fear what they do not know or understand.
Instead of learning about it...they will destroy it.
Kenneth L. knows, they won't harm you.
Nor will a wolf...but that's a whole other story.

Has anyone served a coyote eviction notice....an animal communicator could be very helpful here.

Let them know they're in danger.

Chances are they have already sensed it.

@ Morris. Well, actually, a coyote did eat my beloved pet, a cat. And while I wasn't happy about it, it doesn't justify killing them. I don't think any one is portraying them as "harmeless and tranquil" but compared to human beings they are! Your list of coyote attacks is amusing, considering we slaughter wildlife by the millions.
