With such a small population, beluga whales lack the genetic diversity that is necessary to avoid inbreeding and ensure the long-term survival of the species. Together with their low rate of reproduction, the species is in severe danger of extinction. Planet Earth belongs to all species and humans have already destroyed more than enough ecosystems and species and it is necessary to protect what is left." Also sent an online message to Governor Parnell, copying and slightly rewording the petition text to make it a letter, my above comment and adding the following:

"Protection for animals and the environment is increasing around the world. Spain has recognised some human rights for great apes, Croatia has banned fur-farming from 2017, China is increasing investment into solar energy. These are just two examples of progress. There is no excuse for Alaska to remove existing protections for species.

Thank you for taking these concerns into consideration."

Note: I was not sure regarding which topic to select: "Fish & Game", "Environment" or "Natural Resources" (I selected "Environment" but added this note at the bottom of my message.

If Republican Gov.Sean Parnell is not as disasterous as his predecessor, maybe, there is hope. He must be aware of his tourist trade, that hinges on the magnificent landscape and diverse wildlife.
We did an Alaskan cruise, which ended up being one of the most memorable vacations, ever.

These beluga whales are a sight to see, which you will not easily forget if you see one.

The problem with most states is, they think they can allow Big Business to invade their state, in some seemingly uninhabited or non-interesting area and that will be IT. Of course, that is never the end of it. They slowly, but persistently, invade, more and more territory. Remember, the objective of Big Business is not to build tourist attractions, by preserving the land.

Just a FYI: Parnell was Lt. Governor under Palin, I wouldn't hold out any hope of him backing off "his God given right" to destroy our piece of the planet for the oil companies and big business!

It is so disgusting and shameful that mankind cares more about the profits that go in their pockets , that the lives of the beautiful and irreplaceable animal and marine life on this planet !! And the same goes for the destruction and at times unrepairable devastation and destruction they are causing the only home we have - Our Mother Earth !!
