Join WWF in telling the federal government to remove America's Arctic from the proposed offshore oil and gas leasing plan for 2012-2017. Also let them know to set aside important ecological and sensitive areas if new drilling is allowed in the Arctic.

The Arctic's rich marine environment is the least understood area in the world. We lack basic science from information about currents and tidal systems to simple species counts of marine mammals. A major oil spill could have catastrophic effects on these species.Base from petition. Thanks Cher for the post...

Signed & Shared! The risk of offshore drilling in this area would be too great! Drilling in ice and choppy waters so remote poses risks that are too great to take! We don't have the technology available to deal with a disastrous spill in this area. There hasn't even been a preliminary environmental study to assess the impact of an oil spill in this area which has many fragile ecosystems that could be devastated! And yet our government is moving forward with these leases! The Arctic harbors too much life to risk and too much is at stake just to enrich the oil companies who have never shown any real concern for the environment before!
