On New Year's Eve, Clay's Corner, a retail store in Brasstown, North Carolina, owned by Clay Logan, is holding its annual "Opossum Drop" event, during which a live, wild, captured opossum will be suspended inside a small, clear Plexiglas cage for hours

This is in a small mountain town in my state of NC. PETA has called on the state Wildlife Resources Commision tp put a halt to this so called tradition, stating the activity is both cruel and illegal. Clay Logan who owns Clay's Corner store has been lowering a opossum in a box for 18 yrs. PETA is claiming that Logan lacks the necessary permit to have wild animals & that this annual event fails to meet the legal standard of "humane treatment" of animals. PETA's letter is being reviewed but no decision has been made yet. Logan claims the animal is treated well and "It's a lot of good clean fun". Bottom line is they are a bunch of ignorant rednecks from a small town who have no respect for our animal friends. Let's hope it gets cancelled indefinitely. This is NC folks they are way behind the times on animal welfare issues unfortunetly.
