Killers of War Hero's Dog Sentenced

Well, it's justice of a sort and better than nothing. Two of the "men" who brutally killed Marcus Luttrell's dog Daisy were sentenced; Alfonso Hernandez, 27, was given the maximum sentence for the state-jail felony charge of cruelty to non-live stock

As I stated on the "For the Love of The Dog" Blog............

There is NO sentence of any type that would be harsh enough for this hideous, barbarick, cruel act. It makes NO difference to me if the was merely a family pet or a Service related animal except that brutally killing a Service Animals goes to the top of the list of hideous, barbarick and cruel Crimes. I definately agree with the comment, “Dead men walking”

I do not understand first of all why this animal killing crime was not actually a Federal Crime as the Therapy dog was issued to Marcus Luttrell from the U.S. Military Government to apparently help in the treatment of a Soldier who most likely suffered from PTSD….was it not?

Secondly, I still feel that the punishment of Michael John Edmonds, 24, who was merely sentenced to five years probation and fined $1,000….because he pleaded guilty and testified against his friend and cohort in the killing was anywhere near what he should have received. He should have received some Prison time. It is because of the choices that Michael Edmonds made that put him in the position that he found himeself in where he would have to make a plea bargin with the Attorneys for a “Lesser Sentence” (By SNITCHING” against his partners in crime in the first place.

There is NO excuse for this behavior as these are grown, adult men who are very much aware that killing an animal or any living breathing being is murder. They all knew what they were doing was wrong and they chose to do it. You choose the behavior you reap the consequences – and to let Mr. Edmonds off without even addressing this behavior and not court ordering phychological treatment for the duration of his five year probation period is just wrong.

How do YOU place value on an animals life. Even if they are not service dogs or animals…they are living, breathing creatures. Animals are used everyday to give eyes to the blind, as bomb patrol animals for the protection of human beings, as drug animals to sniff out the drugs being transported and sold to OUR children, as hearing animals to give ears to the deaf and hard of hearing and as Therapy Animals to those who have suffered such traumma that effects their quality of life. Tell me, HOW… do you place ANY Kind of Value and Dollar sign on ANY animal.

Sad…………really sad that OUR own judicial system does not stand up for the quality of all living, breathing, species.

If you read the note at the bottom of the article someone wrote about seeing this discussed on military, soldier of fortune and biker blogs, they all said the same thing, dead men walking. I have a feeling they will meet their karma soon. The one will likely get it in prison.

It really concerns me that there are people who derive 'fun' from doing such things. Clearly they need to be punished but it is unlikely that a simple prison sentence will make them see that what they have done is morally wrong.

Poor Dasy! Those punks need to be beaten with a ball bat & shot dead, like they did to this poor innocent animal!!!! Rubbing salt in the wound to know this was a service dog to one of our soldiers makes it even more despicable!!! Probation & a fine, big deal!!!!!

I as a AF vet can say and believe without a doubt-those 2 are indeed dead men walking and may not be walking for very much longer. The despicable cowards deserve it and will receive it and I for one will applaud it when that trash gets taken out.

It's good that they were convicted, but it wasn't severe enough to deter them from doing this again.

Best sentence for these two scum: Stake them out by a cougar den. Hopefully they will end up either catching a few self defence bullets or being hounded out of North America. They should also have to pay in full for the training costs for a new therapy dog, plus general damages for the veteran.

Noted. Thanks for sharing. I feel the same way as many of you regarding the punishment (lack of). There is no excuse for what has happened to Daisy. They dol not deserve to live. They should be taken out to a lion den for dinner or given to a bear for a snack.

I fully agree with this statement - " I don’t believe that punishment for animal abusers is strong enough specifically for one reason, animal abusers seldom stop with animals and very often engage in other crimes but just the cowardly act of abusing an innocent and defenseless creature, a dog, often friendly and tail wagging, shows the true nature of a person."

It's too bad that navy SEAL didn't shoot all three of them. It would have been more fitting.

Thank you Cher! Did see this and frankly I would be banned from Care2 if I actually wrote what I was thinking at the time.

The ABOVE COMMENTS SAY IT ALL!!! WE NEED STRONGER LAWS FOR OUR ANIMALS!!! If this would of been a human they would of been jailed for Life!!!

The punishment needs to fit the crime. I am so sorry for you and your dog, Mr. Luttrell. Your dog did nothing to deserve the evil that was inflicted upon her. The men who killed her are not contributing anything to society, only taking away from. They need to be terminated!

That punishment is not enough. I think they should be dragged to a ditch in the road, beat with a baseball bat and then shot with a .357. Lets see how funny it is then.

Noted. This is an outrage to both Dasy and Mr. Luttrell. If you read down to the end of the article, it says news has spread to many groups and ends with the quote "dead men walking".

It won't bring back little DASY, but at least these two scum bags where punished. They both deserve a lot worse. They need to be beaten like they beat the little dog. ''RIP DASY''.

We need the same punishment for death of an animal as for a human or maybe worst as these animals are dependent on us. Maybe other inmates will take care of these guys for us in prison so we never have to have them enter society again.
