Signed and noted, An odd thing about the current rise in gas prices is that it's occurring during an oil surplus. Price rises almost always happen when there's a shortage. Hmmm....

The fact is that Exxon is allowed to deduct legitimate expenses from the money that they make. Over the years Exxon has invested money to search for new sources of oil. If they had not done so, we would have a much more serious oil cost problem because there would be a big shortage of oil. Right now we don't have an oil shortage. The CEO testified before Congress that there was no oil shortage and the cost of oil is not being determined by supply and demand as it should be. He wanted them to be aware that the price of oil is determined by bidding by speculators. He was being honest. Something needs to be done. Our country should join with other countries to put a stop to this. Yes we should also do all that we can to find other ways to cut our use of oil, but it could take a long time and in the meantime we need that oil. If a company like Exxon can't deduct the high costs of their research and other expenses from the income they have to pay taxes on, it would not be worth for them to spend that money. They also should be allowed to deduct the taxes that they pay to a foreign country because they sold oil and made a profit from doing so in that country. After they deduct the tax that they paid to that country in which they made a profit, they still pay the U.S. tax on that profit. Exxon is not one of the companies that decided to set itself in some foreign island etc. to avoid paying the tax to the U.S. They remain a U.S. country and pay taxes to the U.S.

If we must subsidise energy, let it be geothermal, offshore and remote area wind, and solar, not depleting petrochemical reserves! S&N

I prefer to subsidize CLEAN and NATURAL causes, return lands to FIRST NATIONS people and animals every where, not dirty oil, tobacco, cattle ranchers and other animal killers, land thieves...My tax dollars are for sustaining life naturally, not providing for greed and corruption and bad karmic acts.

Signed and sent. Thanks, Cher. Previously sent letter to McCain asking him to please return to his "Maverick" roots and stand with the majority of his AZ constituents on this bill; and also keep it "clean" and amendment-free. He's "flip-flopped" so often, I'm hoping he flops back to some ethics and morality.

At those profits, why in the world do they need subsidies? It might have been different about 80 years ago in getting the oil industry started after the manufacture of automobiles, but certainly not necessary any longer. I've signed it.
