Scientists Propose 'Bill of Rights' for Dolphins to Protect 'Non-Human Persons'

Animal-rights activists have long sought freedom for dolphins from their circus-like captivity. Now scientists are proposing a "Declaration of Cetacean Rights." The biological order of Cetacea includes whales, dolphins, and porpoises.

Signed as we all should. Dolphins deserve their special place in this world, and freedom from murder, torture, and displacement from humankind.

It's missing the right to live in a NON-POLLUTED natural habitat.

Yes yes yes! It is time we realise we are just one species sharing this habitat (earth) -sharing as in together not on top! So this sounds like a step in the right direction.By the way I think we should reconsider our "rule" we haven't done lots of good with this attitude. I see myself more as a caretaker while I am here, I certainly do not wish to rule over animals.I am just happy and grateful they are still here despite all the grief we have caused them. In my eyes we can learn a lot from tribal societies which still live with nature and respect their fellow beings.

It's about time law makers caught up with the facts - animals are sentient - cognitive, aware, conscious and capable of deep feelings. I remember back in the 1960s when animals were operated on without any anesthetic because "science" did not believe that they had the fully developed nervous system necessary to feel pain. Humans have done horrible, horrible things as a species and we need to right this terrible wrong immediately.
