While readiness and training realism will usually trump other concerns, the military does make a real effort.

The greater concerns are the use of depleted uranium rounds, whale and dolphin damaging sonar, and similar issues.

The military has become a strong advocate for alternative energy and energy conservation. Stickers at every light swtich, 'turn off when not in use," were required at least as far back as the 60s, is just one simple example.
