Can you imagine travelling from New York to LA in under an hour? How about from Washington D.C. to Beijing in just 2 hours?

not much sustainable about it. Less destructive than cars, yes, butthat doesnt make it sustainable.

the more UNsustainable our machine-cult(ure) gets (hope you did not miss recent reports like "Greenhouse Gas Emissions Exceed 'Worst Case' Scenario" and "Jump In Greenhouse Gases Is Biggest Ever Seen") the more the urge for denial (and greenwashing &c; and mis-using the term "sustainable" --which sensibly can only be applied to a whole-- for selected sub-parts) seems to dominate.

Right answer, wrong question. Rather than developing shiny new ways to move loads of people around, we should be developing a way for people to work and socialise without having to travel hundreds of miles routinely. Oh wait, we have, it's called the Internet.

Thanks Cher for posting the link to the video report. Went to their web site at; http://www.et3.com/ett.asp to check it out and found that when ask what the oil companies will do regarding this type of travel the answer was " there will be a huge demand for plastic components so their profits won't suffer". Doesn't sound to sustainable to me.

Better to stay local. Moving people long distances is not the most sustainable way forward.
