A proposal to legalize the ivory trade as a way to combat rampant elephant poaching sparked fierce debate at a recent meeting of the Standing Committee of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) in Geneva, Switzerland.

Paula's comment is right: this horrible situation is getting about zero media attention in the U.S. When ivory sales became illegal in the 1970's the media paid lots of attention. Of course that was before deregulation and "news" as a method of dumbing down the population.

I wonder how many people buying ivory trinkets in China and elsewhere realize they are pushing African elephants to extinction. Signed, shared and noted. Thanks, Cher.

NO to any legalization of the Elephant Ivory trade.

Anyone possessing any parts of an Elephant tusk should be sent to prison for fifty years.
Anyone caught poaching and killing an Elephant should be sent to prison for no less than fifty (50) years.
Elephants are fast becoming critically endangered, soon to be extinct.
