It's the start of a brand new school year. And what better way to connect children to their natural surroundings than with an interactive media campaign, featuring a beloved character?

Saw the movie. I think it would be a great tool for teachers. Dr. Seuss would approve.

There is so much negative talk about schools and teachers these days, we forget just how much they can affect our lives. I have a FB account, I use it only for trying to gather more signatures on petitions. Just this morning I found another notice from FB that I have notifications, and then spotted a message from months ago. It was from a student of mine in the mid- 1980's. She left a note saying that I was the reason she decided to become a social worker. Never dismiss the impact a teacher can have on your child or your own life. We as teachers even forget that, we do touch the future. I'm so happy this beautiful child - as I remember her, has chosen a field where she too will touch the lives of many.

The wonderful thing about The Lorax (I believe written in 1966), it was the first children's book ever written about the environment. If your students have never heard it, it can be read into the middle school grades.
Children do not understand the symbolism of the "Oneceler" -that he is every man, the man/company/producer you never see, but he is responsible for destroying the environment. A brilliant book, years before its time.
