UK Demonstrates That No Subsides = No Solar

the number of UK homes installing solar panels has fallen dramatically since the start of August. And the sharp drop reportedly comes after a cut in subsidy rates by the government.

Like the title -- because there is honesty in it. Coal, oil, natural gas, and nuke were subsidized heavily to get going -- for the most part -- except for a very few people who did it on their own. GOOD POINT.

When I lived in the UK I looked into installing solar panels. The costs were astronomical. Subsidies will certainly help the country move forward in alternative energies.

Statistics, August, Europe ? I think that explains the massive drop. Really, most people who could move their purchase forward, and those that remain are the people don't want to spend that much money (or, more likely, don't have the money to spend). If the industry is not subsidize, perhaps that will be forced into finding innovative ways to reduce cost and will be beneficial for everyone.

The Brits have developed a fatal addiction to socialist subsidies. While I'm all for alternative (non fossil fuel) energy sources, I feel that anything beyond a few tax credits at the consumer end and major tax exemptions at the centralised energy production end to 'seed' alternative energy is too much government and too much waste of other people's money. Exempting installation cost of a home wind turbine, PV panel set, or Climax water preheater from general taxation would encourage homeowners who'd keep using the stuff for its reduction in energy bills; power companies should have maybe up to a decade where they benefit from swapping out coal boilers for geothermal hotwell bores. By then the reductions in actual cost should have taken hold and the subsidies or tax bennies can be phased out.

I would like to see the govt. in the U.S. do more to subsidize payments for homeowners to install green energy systems. We currently give millions of dollars in subsidies to dirty energy companies, especially the big oil corporations who are reaping the largest profits in human history. Why not channel that money to individuals who can install energy systems which actually help to decrease global warming?
