Only very few species aside from humans develop the disease. So why do so many animals end up suffering because of a disease they don't naturally develop?

Thanks Cher, I voted. This is a different kind of article then most animal stories, though I have seen animal stories that have "environmental" even political" connections I see no reason that the person filing the story should not decide where it should go or under what group of tags. This is certainly not humor, but OFF BEAT has room for more then humor.

Much of the approach of the “war on cancer” has been to find a treatment for cancer. Meaning healthy animals are purposefully given cancer and then injected with drugs to see if their cancers respond.
The Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation is looking for another strategy in the “war on cancer.” Using only the real deal – that is, humans – this organization is changing the face of breast cancer research by doing research on, well, human breast ducts.
The goal of the Army of Women, (a partnership between the Avon Foundation for Women and Love’s foundation) is “to challenge research scientists to move from ineffective animal models to breast-cancer-prevention research conducted on healthy women,” according to an article appearing in the Chronicle of Higher Education.

Supporting you all from NZ;)

Needless to say, breast cancer is an overspread and deadly disease. I am convinced, however, that this problem cannot be successfully tackled via animal testing (women are not rabbits, thus what may cure rabbits or other animals may not cure women), which is extremely cruel on top of that. Inflicting hurt on some beings in order to save another cannot be right. The research into the disease must be done with ethics in view while the crucial role of prevention cannot be overemphasized. I do pray that the cure will be found shortly, yet I cannot condone it being sought via hurting other living beings -- there must be another way, a way that would help women while sparing animals, which should be prioritized.
