A cat's tail is more than just a pretty appendage -- and it's more sensitive than you might think.

Interesting information. I love when my kitten "discovers" his tail, and fights with it as if it was not part of its body.

Noted. Thanks Cher - now I know what the "quivering" means! Only one of my cats does that but then, he's a little momma's boy :-)

When outdoors , a cat has her tail low, because she'd like to hide her scent for hunting. When you call her, the tail goes up, that means she acknowledges you.

Nice note about these amazing animals, they're still the best vermin trappers and excellent companions. 8000 some years ago the Egyptians took them on to kill rodents in the grain bins, and now they're boon companions!

Interesting. One of my feral cats had her tail cut off when she was a kitten. Not sure what happened. She's been with me for 15 years now. Have never seen her climb a tree or jump any higher than a chair seat. My guest was that she probably didn't feel secure doing so without her tail. She lives in my backyard and comes in my house through a doggie door. Because she has a little arthritis, she spends most of her time indoors. I even got her a heated cat bed that she enjoys when it's chilly.

Thanks - Interesting read :) And to Quinton - Yes I have just rehomed a beautiful new cat to our family. So wonderful to watch her settle and blossom into the lovely girl that she is :) A blessing to behold!

As I said my cat attacks her tail, jumps up and down and bites it ( scream ) so she runs down stairs , but the tail also runs dow behind her and their is a fight ( more screams) when she bites her tail and then she gives up,,
or maybe not ????
