Heartbreaking. Why is it taking so long for schools to become proactive?

It is hard for schools, especially with places like Facebook.

This is exactly why I will NOT let my daughter anywhere near Facebook!!

In fact she only uses the internet for homework.

This story really has upset me!!!

My daughter was being bullied at school, and the school tried to help but eventually I had to get the police involved!! They went to the boys home and talked to the parents and he basically leaves my daughter alone now. I try very hard to make sure there is always open communication with me and my daughter, and she always tells me what is going on. I know quite often kids don't feel that they can talk to their parents.

This is so tragic, the poor girl. How lonely and hurt she must have been.

I couldn't watch the whole video. As soon as I read the word "Facebook", I began to move from emotional to angry. I hate that site, and I hate what it (in part) is doing to children.

You're a great mom Cher..Your daughter is lucky to have a parent like you..Just as I am sure you are lucky to have her..

I agree about kids on Facebook..Way to young..Even older kids can get hurt there..

Such a sad ending for this young girl and her family..

Thanks Cher. I think it's a good idea that you keep your daughter away from Facebook since so many atrocious incidents of bullying (and resulting tragedy and heartbreak) have originated there. It's so sad that things like this happen. Social networking can be fun and useful but in the hands of people that have cruel intentions it becomes a weapon that hurts others and can cause serious suffering.

This is very sad. Cher, you protect your daughter. Mine is old enough to understand and we really haven't had bad experiences on FB. We block out people we are not interested in being in contact with and are only connected to our friends. It's the young people who aren't careful and too spontaneous and impulsive.

This is very upsetting indeed. So tragic that one foolish mistake can lead to a tragedy such as this. Low self-esteem can often lead this behaviour, and is then compounded by bullying such as this. I think it's unfair to blame facebook or any other media. It's people that are to blame. If they didn't spread their malicious intent this way, they'd find another. Current media actually bring this sort of thing to light. It's nothing new. Poison pen letters and printed photographs/Polaroids were the tools of choice in the past.

People should protest on Facebook, I have an account but rarely use it...everyone using Facebook should properly navigate through the security settings. The cyber stalkers should be prosecuted.
