It is sad that the elephants are abused because they won't perform. The exotic animals should be set free because that is where they belong. And the circus needs to be stopped. Please help the animals.

I cannot help but believe that animals should not be used for any profit making enterprise, particularly circuses which incorporate animals into their acts. Perhaps the profits made by these animals should go directly back to them, their food and pens upgraded, stimulating activities mandated, with a portion going toward their own retirement care in a lovely and loving place with room to roam and an adoptive family of others. They made the money, they have a right to benefit from it.

The time is overdue---the elephants must be released from their captivity-- held in these dam circuses!!! Signed. Those horrible animal acts must be stopped. Those poor elephants! I recall a wonderful but painful film about the circus, "Water" I think, about abusing the poor elephant and her final revenge against her tormentor.

When my daughter was 3 or 4 I took her to a circus & they were offering elephant rides for a dollar or two. My daughter didn't want to get up on that huge elephant but I coerced her. Thankfully I took a photo. The photo showed my daughter as terrified. Of course, way back then I didn't think of the elephant at all - just a photo setting for the apple of my eye -- I was so ignorant then.
The biggest changes in my life concern my attitude toward animals - from thoughtless meat eater to an occasional, guilt ridden consumer (no meat whatsoever yesterday on Thanksgiving!) from a casual pet owner to a committed, bonded animal companion to two dogs and a cat.

I tried to save my state (Pennsylvania) a million dollars about a year ago. Two retired circus elephants were retired to the Philly zoo, which didn't have proper facilities, which needed renovations estimated at $1,000,000 to be up to code, a sanctuary in California offered to take them, even pay for their transport, and they could spend their retirement in sunny California in a roomy sanctuary. I wrote my state representative & Wonder of Wonders - he actually sent me a hand written reply that he'd bring the issue up in Harrisburg.
Well I don't know if anything came of it, my fault for not following up.
But I disagree with the concept of animals for man's entertainment, it's dangerous, unnecessary and I believe the 'master/slave' relationship has great potential to end in violenlce.

Kate, truly thank you for your efforts in trying to help the two elephants and do so hope it worked out for their best. Just like you my empathy for ALL ANIMALS has grown logrythmically over the years and quite frankly in most cases I would prefer to be with my dogs than a lot of "two legged upright morons". But it is not enough that we sign the cause TALK WITH YOUR WALLET! Do not attend the circus until WE FORCE THE CHANGE! It is always about one thing "$$$$$$$".

Apparently the penalty for cruelty isn't near great enough. How about impressing them on the 2nd charge and shutting them down if there is a third.
