this happens in a civilized society and responsible.
But if you give a non-recyclable waste in the hands of the Camorra, especially in southern Italy, they end up mostly in Africa with the help of corrupt governments, and often cast out in the Mediterranean Sea before the same countries where the Camorra families live, this is the height of the deficiency and ignorance of Camorra's people

My school district recently bought 1,000 pounds of shredded tire to be used on the ground in our new playground area.

Better than those ugly tire sandals!

Gloria, I beg your pardon, I resemble that remark - I love my tire sandals and shoes!

Shredded tires in highway asphalt greatly reduces the noise as well as the jolting. Some was experimented with here. Unfortunately I haven't seen wide use here yet.

Thank you. There's nothing worse than burning tires. Per the Camorra Curzio I saw the film and couldn't believe these idiots could be so stupid. They were actually burying it in landfill sites and abandoned complexes. I wasn't aware they were dumping it into the sea as well. Good grief. A ten fold curse to the tenth generation on these idiots.

What about the use of tires to make walls of homes, or turned inside out and used for planters and swings

I hope it's just the beginning of brain-storming for other ideas!

A good friend of mine has had a company since the early 80's where he turns old tires into bumpers for boats, ferries and tugs.
He even spoke to the WA. state senate about this, and has been given numerous green awards..
But believe it or not the state still uses "virgin" rubber for our many ferries! So most off his bigger clients are in Canada and elsewhere...*sigh

Seems, some sorry censored pitiful censored CENSORED (or, possibly though not likely at all: some strange unexplicable phenomenon) has aaAaaaAAaaaaaggGGggGggain been very busy deleting my comment(s), unless, of course, they disappeared magicallly. Kind of a very-well-established habit meanwhile. There is something EXTREMELY ROTTEN in care2 ...

And isn't it .. errr shall we say: fascinatingly remarkable, how (very targeted) someone/thing/whatever here @care2 keeps, for years now --per-sis-tent-ly-- deleting (some) comments (of some users), WHEREAS --in appalling sharp contrast-- care2 has not even managed to delete spam postings when the spammer's profile gets deleted ?

the same as with colorless greepainted wishes: they exist only in fantasy and propaganda

Not 1 tire is ever recycled. Downgraded maybe, used to further pollute the environment - don't they e.g. contain Cadmium? oh, it's only small concentrations, but don't they add up to many tons of Cd being dispersed into the biosphere each year? ...

> sustainably recycle
= Mega-Bull$hit!
it's neither a cycle, nor does it come within Lightyears of being sutainable

But in the end the tyres will still end up in landfiil, sure the tyre life was prolonged a litle longer. Eventually the rubber will break up, then what are you going to do with your rubber mulch which most likely has contaminated your garden as well?
