What I Talk About When I Talk to My Dog

Dogs are our confidants. With purpose and sometimes without intent, we tell our dogs things that would almost never be uttered to another human being (at least not to their faces). We also tell them mundane things -- anything and everything, actually.

I tend to just get up and go to do something, forget what I was going to do, and then turn to my dog and ask him "what was I going to do?". It's a shame he can never remember :p

noted and thanks Cher. I don't have a dog to talk to, but I DO talk to my cat like she's listening - do any cats ever really listen though?? lol I think talking to our pets is like reciting thoughts in our heads that we think no one else will understand

Some cats are chatty and others very quiet. Dogs tend to look at us and try to empathize with our confusion. Animals are so much nicer than many people.

I talk to my cats the same way in which the author talks to her dogs. Mommy has to go to work. Mommy is going to the store to buy cat foodies. I tell them how beautiful and precious they are, and how soft their furries are, and how much Mommy loves them.

I talk to all animals and all have responded in ways that take my breath away, some I have had to get them to repeat it, others i have asked to do things and they have, another; a race horse, was being ridden and the rider who wasnt the owner but perhaps the trainer jockey yelled at me not to come close or closer. I eyeballed the horse, mentally transmitted my thoughts and asked him if he wanted my apple. He stood very still watching me while his rider was going berserk. I ignored her and continued on talking to the horse and with each sentence i took another step forward till I was very close to him. By this time he was drooling and ate ALL the apple off my hand. The rider was astounded and said,' Im going to tell the owner of his encounter and his behaviour, its incredible and amazing'. I said, gently talk to animals and treat them like your best friend and in time they will certainly respond in a wonderful way.... I have quite a lot of these stories.

I used to talk to my cats. Like any parent, however, I'd get frustrated, especially with Kirby, my tuxedo cat. He could be incredibly obnoxious and stubborn as heck! I discovered the more I yelled at him the more obnoxious and stubborn he'd be so I ignored him and was rewarded with headbonks and a whole lota Kirby lovin'! I miss my Kirby so much.
