Interesting to think that (as in #6) these behaviors are innate...nobody teaches birds how to attract a mate...they're born "pre-programmed!"

On a side note--one of the black widow spiders we use in our zoo education program just gave birth to (what appeared to be) HUNDREDS of babies!

She's been sequestered for over a year & a half. THEY STORE SPERM!

The babies were all released into Griffith Park, so you needn't worry about them.

Very interesting! I once had a huge brown spider in my apartment and I screamed and my neighbor's daughter--who was terrified of spiders but I didn't know it--stepped on to kill it and what seemed like millions!--of baby spiders came scampering out in every direction at once!! Man, you never saw anyone run so fast!! Poor Sarah, my neighbor. I climbed into my wheelchair and started yelling at my cats to get away from the spiders and they flew out the door with me at their heels. We had to get the maintenance man to come over and exterminate them.
