Maybe the cop screamed and shot because he thought Colonel Phillips might pee on his shiny boots?

American police -some-seem to be very whimpy about dogs as there are many accounts of them shooting -unecessarily-tail wagging dogs, they don't seem to have any understanding how to treat animals and should be trained, the owner should sue this policeman and he should be made to pay all vet bills -idiot-poor little pup I hope he recovers.

I've been following this on Dog News Examiner. The family is suing the department for damages and have a good chance of winning, given that they have been harassed by other policemen since the original incident and that harassment was witnessed by a local news station and everything that happened was witnesses by neighbors. The cop was totally in the wrong.

Dorothy N. (63)

I suspect that incidents like this are the result of the militarization of police forces intended to protect the community - including pets - of an 'us and them, and they're out to get cops' mentality instilled in police, of a lack of respect for the lives and rights of others encouraged in the protective forces taxpayers pay.

This has to STOP, and I do hope that the information provided by Kathy Lentz indicates that the family will succeed in suing the heck out of the department and help to discourage future incidents of this nature.

I agree with Dorothy. It's completely unacceptable that police forces are militarized and uncivilized to the extent that they shoot tail-wagging dogs. Apparently they need training in the rights of others, as well as training in human and animal body language, so that they don't shoot non-threatening humans and friendly pets. Definitely signed and noted! Thanks, Cher!

And what did the big, bad, gun toting police officer think a puppy would do to him? Pee on his leg?

Julia R. (290)
Thursday December 13, 2012, 11:41 pm
It's seems as if every day on Care2 or change.org I read about a policeman who has shot and killed a dog for no reason then just because the dog was on his property or came up to him- even wagging his tail! And now we have little puppies being shot by them! This is absolutely indefensible. It sounds as if this policeman purposely went out of his way to shoot this innocent puppy just be be mean! The family should sue the police dept. for the vet bill and for the long term injury he caused this dog, and this police officer should be fired. He doesn't sound level-headed, and he is not able to exercise appropriate restraint. This is why they need to test cops for temperment before they hire them as well as make them take courses in non-lethal methods of handling animals and be certified in this area before they send them out on their first call!

For every action there is a reaction. According to the law of karma, if we cause

pain and suffering to other living beings, we must endure pain and suffering in

return, both individually and collectively. We reap what we sow, in this life and

the next, for nature has her own justice. No one can escape the law of karma.
