Rescued kitties sometimes have real problems. Here's my experience with Rumi, my Persian.

A touching article that gives some good information to those considering adoption from their local shelter. Information makes us aware of things we might need to expect, it should not deter us from bringing a friend in need to our homes.

In NJ there are very few non-kill shelters. Mine just happens to be one of them; this is important because IF for some reason the adoption does not work out, the shelter should take the animal back - make sure this policy.
If you find a cat that you are interested in, and the shelter can only give up limited information: that it has its shots, etc, don't jump into an adoption. You must be able to hold the cat, and it should not appear to dislike being touched.
In many cases, rescues try to adopt out ferals, hoping they can be socialized enough for adoption; this is rarely the case. You want a cat, whether its 1 month or 6 years old, when you pick it up, it looks at you and in its eyes say "hello". You will know within moments you have picked the right one.
My middle guy, Winston was in a cage, 6 weeks old. I look at him, and he licked my hand through the cage. I fell in love in 30 seconds.

Poor little guy. He must have had a rough life before you adopted him. I think he's doing well now by your pictures.
