we live in the suburbs and have had a fox and raccoon on our deck. we used to feed the birds and squirrels whenever we thought about it. now i make sure i put the food out first thing in the morning so it's all gone before nighttime.

We have some pretty fat racoons who waddle past our house each night. There have been racoon families around here as long as I can remember. We make sure the cats are in before dusk so there is no potential for direct contact.

The point about the grill--taken. Guilty as charged. I have the CUTEST picture of the neighbor's cat "cleaning" my grill for me.

I think dogs need to be on lease and not left in the yard. This isn't my land is your land anymore. It's wild or it's the city. Domestics are domestic and wild are wild.

My backyard is open to anyone that wants to visit, that is why I put food and water outside, 24/7 365 days a year including leap year.

Good article! I know people in Arizona ( city areas where you would not expect it) who have to watch out for coyotes who might grab their small dog.

What a terrible idea to set out food for neighborhood ferals. Why would you want to attract them to your home?
One other tio" Id you have an enclosed yard, and are in the habit of letting your dog out in the evening, please be aware of the possibility of raccoons, other feral cats, and skunks lurking in the dark.. All of which, if you have a small dog, can be seriously hurt.
