It was announced December 18, 2012 that a total of 113 government-owned chimpanzees currently housed at the controversial New Iberia Research Center will be permanently retired and sent to the National Chimpanzee Sanctuary at Chimp Haven in Louisiana

I am so happy for these chimps to finally get the release into sanctuary that they so desperately deserve. I hope they are all well enough to enjoy it. Now for the next group of animals to be saved.

Very super story...am so happy to know they are going to a place where they,hopefully be treated kindly and with dedication. They should have never been used for research in the first place.

Chimp Haven's board of directors are almost all affiliated with the NIH. Let's hope they don't change their minds. Even if they do, it's unlikely they'll make an announcement.
