When their former owner dropped Bella and Blue off at a shelter, all we could provide was love.

Like letting your child become morbidly obese, letting your pet become so is also a crime. My oldest is 18lbs, and it's been very hard to get him to lose weight with 2 others; although he is in good health, he's also 10.

There is no excuse if you love animals to let your cat reach 32 lbs. I have a 17 lb. cat I was free feeding.....no more. I hand feed a little at a time, he's 8 and I want him to live a long life.

Noted. Ohhhh, poor Blue! What a rough life he had, so many health problems. However, his foster mom really loved him. I can't believe that last vet, he should not be in the business of taking care of animals. As for Bella, I'm glad to hear she's doing so well. Thanks so much, Cher!

It's amazing how many people are killing their animals with kindness but are oblivious to it!!!!

We need more foster moms and dads like Rachel and Meagan. They are heroes.

But that veterinarian... not.

I adopted a very large orange cat from a shelter. I had no idea what hepatic lipidosis was or that the cat could die from it. I spent hundreds of dollars on vet bills and a feeding tube but Melon died a few months after I got him. Cats should never be allowed to get so obese that this could happen to them. It broke my heart that I couldn't save this poor cat.

I'm not sure how this could happen, but pretty sure it wouldn't if the person had had support from other animnal lovers and thank goodness for those that did finally help the cats.

I hope this vet is reported to the news and the Vet board. God Bless Blue and Bella. I agree, Americans are such a throw away society. We need to make those breeding their pets to take responsibility and have to take the animals they produce back no matter how old or sick they are. If people knew they would get these animals all back, they will think twice about breeding their pets. If there were no more homeless pets, then people like the one who turned the cats in, wouldn't be able to have any more animals.

I see this type of thing all of the time. People just leave a giant bowl of food sitting around 24/7. Most of the people who do this don't wash either the food or water bowls...they just keep topping them up.

Great comments above. Most everything was said that I was thinking after reading the story. Blue did not have to die the way he did. What was wrong with that vet!

Jeez, I don't own pets but to overfeed or neglect an animal that obviously for whatever reason is just irresponsible and the owner should have been reprimanded. It says she had two other cats that were normal in weight. Why were these two so overweight then. Does it have anything to do with the breed? I think that's a question that needs answering. Bella's a pretty cat and I'm glad to hear she's well.

Noted - it's too easy to get a pet! It would be great if you had to prove you we're going to be a responsible owner before getting a pet.

This story just broke my heart. People are so heartless and cruel. Blue did not have to die. If his former owner would have just taken the time and effort to take care of both Blue and Bella from the beginning, Blue would still be alive today although who knows what kind of life they were leading with the horrible person that didn't care enough to take care of them in the first place. That person has no business owning cats at all.
