Signed with a comment that did not appear! We have taken the animals' lands and we need to ensure that we co-exist with them. Nets sound sensible but Australian farmers like to kill animals even when they are not hurting their crops or animals such as the Wedge Tailed Eagles. Killed and hung on fences for, allegedly, killing lambs. It was found that they didn't but the farmers wouldn't have it!!!

Once this inhumane Barbaric Practice was Banned and now simply because of the Farmers the Ban has lifted and allowing the massaccre of the flying bats. AUSTRALIA WAKE UP YOU HAVE LOTS OT OVER POPULATION. WHY DON'T YOU START THE MASSACCRE OF PEOPLE. YOU PEOPLE ARE ONE OF A KIND OF MORONS. LET THE BATS BE BATS. WE NEED ALL the living creatures on the Planet to be a Planet Earth. Every little creature contributes to keep the Planet nurish in some way or the other. STOP KILLING THE FLYING BATS.

It was a typo error I guess instead of Flying Foxes I simply mentioned about the flying Bats Infact I think I was in a heartbroken situation and that was mentioned as another species. However I have seen in many documentaries these Flying foxes as somwhat beautiful and very active and curios creatures Please save them protect hem and make sure our Grand kids time comes they will have a priviledge of watching these little creatures and enjoy the same way we did.

It seems that I. a voice in the wilderness, was shot down along with the Flying foxes.

So many shooting off without having a skerrick of knowledge of the problem,
First up for those who really don't know, the Flying Fox is the carrier of the Hendra Virus that kills horses and humans, The first was a horse trainer Vic Rail in Hendra a Brisbane suburb, hence the name. Since then there have been many outbreaks.

Secondly and importantly the proliferation of the Flying Fox has been brought about by the growth of the fruit orchards. The other name for the specie is Fruit Bats. Previously the numbers were in control as they fed on, and actually helped propagate Rain Forests fruit, In this way they regulated their own growth in numbers.
Now they are multiplying out of all proportion whilst they decimate the cultivated fruit farms.

At upwards of $5,000.00 per acre, netting would soon see many farmers leave the industry as it would not be cost effective.

Most Australian bush dwellers rely on rain water collected from their roofs, very often the pollution from the droppings contaminate this water, If you have had to live anywhere near a colony, you soon would do as some have, leave your home, as the stench left by thousands of roosting, defecating, urinating, Bats is overpowering.

Wholesale slaughter is not what lifting of the ban means, I know of no cost effective way of controlling these disease bearing animals. But some control is needed, one way is to ensure that no more native forests are clear or even selectively felled so ensuring the F F do have their natural habitat intact. In their natural forest environment they perform a worthwhile service in re seeding the forests. In the artificial environment of the commercial fruit farms they do not.
