One difficulty for the solar industry in France is that several years ago a large solar manufacturer was sold to China, with many jobs lost. That company had been a major supplier of solar panels for Germany's large-scale solar energy expansion, according to Thom Hartmann. China has also undercut the solar industry in the U.S.
