Have many times have you been handed a receipt after purchasing an item, only to throw it away on your way out? Your morning coffee, afternoon slice of pizza, pack of chewing gum are all items for which you need no proof of purchase, and yet they still

There was a great article a while back about the receipts from ATM machines. They alone could circle the globe - I don't remember if it was more than once.

Makes good sense to me. Everyone is a winner--except the paper companies, I suppose.

Signed, also many receipts contain BPA, an endocrine disruptor, neurological problems in fetus and infant development, and possibly obesity(endocrine system) would make some sense.with all sorts of other health issues, the debate rages on though, just with other issues, other scientist say BPA posses no threat. I try to avoid receipts if possible.

Signed and shared. It would be great if there was some sort of electronic receipt that could be sent directly to your electronic device. I'm one of those people who scans everything in to a program on my computer and I really like to get a receipt. However, I'm just as happy to get the information electronically; in fact I prefer it. I prefer no paper at all be involved if possible. Bad thing is, after scanning a receipt, I generally throw it away or put it into recycling for shredding later on; but there's still paper involved. It should be easy enough for businesses to offer electronic receipts.

In cases where a receipt IS necessary, it could be printed on a smaller piece of paper. AND think about the product you are purchasing--do you really need it? If it is soda, it will do you much more harm than good. Also, always read the label and ascertain how much sodium, etc in the product.

I would tend to agree that if one pays cash for a "Happy Meal", they might not save the receipt, but I, for one, want a printed receipt for anything bought with a debit or credit card! I check all accounts regularly online and check off the items when I get my statement. Without a receipt to compare with, how can anyone do that? If there is a dispute, one needs their receipt to prove an error. Yes, you can get one from the retailer, MAYBE, and it takes weeks, even months.

Cher, what would you suggest for those who want to keep accurate recods? I read a suggestion above (from Shar F.). Yes, I suppose, BUT think about the added expense of retailers if they have to turn a machine on or off to print or NOT print a receipt?
