The littler doesn't matter - as long as it's clumping. What does matter is the height of the box. I have 2 boys that on occasion, "over shoot " the box as they don't squat down close enough to not over shoot the box.
We have talked about this, but it has not helped.

I've owned cats all my life. They are all different in personalities and do know what they like......They list a few things that could cause cats not to use the litter box BUT they left out scented cat litter.....Cats have sensitive noses they may not like the scented cat litter because it burns their nose and not to mention scented cat litter can cause nasal and lung issue with cats over prolonged use.......Thanks for the article gave me more things to consider should my 2 feline babies start acting funny towards their cat boxes.....

We stay away from the scented toilet and have learned to avoid the fell good litters such as wheat and pine and the like. Clumping, unscented litter appears to be a favorite. I tried some well composted bark mulch which was an all time favorite but impossible to clean well.

Kitties are particular about certain things and their litter boxes are one of those things. I tried a hooded one years ago and the cat I had at the time, who had previously never gone outside the box, began to do so. The solution was really simple, get rid of the dang cover. We have large, deep boxes now and use clumping, unscented and everyone is happy. Ours never took to the newspaper, pine or other types of litters. We just keep the pans clean and they are happy and compliant.
