Earth Day was established and brought to the minds and lips of millions of Americans by a series of individual yet unforgettable events; you can call them 'environmental occurrences' if you like; and these were not natural, ordinary, nor expected.

It is so good to hear that the world is finally awakening to our own demise. I have renewed my own personal vow and have been educating any and every person that I can about how everything they do can possibly be adding yet another nail to the coffin. Sadly, there are still far too many who are willing to listen or care. Thank you Cher for reminding us how important it is for each of us to take a personal stand and to be accountable for our own actions and their effect on our world.

Excellent message. Sometimes it is hard to feel hopeful; yet I can remember the 1962 London fog when as a tourist I walked through pea soup and you couldn't see your hands in front of you. People would suddenly emerge. I had bought a Inverness Cape (Sherlock Holmes) plus appropriate hat and this caused 2 girls who suddenly saw me to scream 'he has no hands'.

Since moving to my Eastern Ontario home 31 years ago with 82 acres of mainly forest and a 1 acre organic vegetable garden I always told my children that each year this part of the earth is the better for me being here. It is all up to education at home and at school.

Of course it is a tough hill to climb. I get despondent when I see the litter the high school kids dump in our village of Sydenham. When kids avoid the garbage bin I put in my turn around and just dump on the ground.

We all need to speak out and to give a living example, of living compassionately and in balance with all the little creatures that share this earth.

Thank you for the article.

Warmly,
David

I make every year a New Year promise that I am every year more green and it is really easy...at the meanwhile I also start some greener decisions all the time.
