I didn't want to get more cats. But a sweet Russian Blue at the shelter had other ideas

Oh boy, can I empathize with this. I also now have two strays I'm feeding that are just too smart to get into the catch and release trap. I think they need to see the vet, but they also too skittish for petting. Any ideas?

I lived five years in a small apartment of 65 square meters with five cats, it was not easy, but I love cats and I hope to do again.

This is why I don't go to see new litters...I'd probably take one or two home.

Well, I have way more cats than I want, and all because I rescued some kittens in the middle of a very hot summer. I have found homes for some, but now live in a very small town, and people only want "barn cats". They were very sickly and we spent a lot of time getting them back to health, a couple will never be totally normal health. It takes so much work to take care of them all and a LOT of money. Unfortunately there is no money for catch and release programs here. I do not have the heart to take them to the pound, they are crowded as it is. So my life practically revolves around taking care of cats. I don't want to be the "crazy cat lady", but seems I have no choice at this point.

Kit, Keep baiting that hav-a-hart and it will work. TNR is not the solution to the problem as most know. See the recent articles on the horrible wildlife devastation caused by outdoor cats???? Look it up then please keep your cats indoors.

Once you get a cat, it's hard not to get more. I HATE the term 'crazy cat lady'. Why would anyone belittle someone by calling them that, let alone yourself. Women will not be free of labels until we (women), stop calling each other names like this. How many dogs do you have to have to be the crazy dog lady or man? Why do people call me the cat lady because I have 3 cats, but some of those calling me that have 3 - 5 dogs and they think they are OK. I hate these names we give each other. I think you have very low self esteem by putting labels on others and yourself.

Kit, wild animals are suspicious of anything that is too obvious or stands out, even if you have a cover over it. Try piling some debris around it like pieces of cardboard, branches, even lawn chairs. Make sort of a mess around it and then try baiting it with canned mackerel {it smells stronger than tuna}. Good luck!

Visit a shelter; they are filled with lovely cats, of all ages, colours and attitude.

Noted. I have 6 (for the moment!), several strays I'm working with, and am a caregiver for a large feral colony. And I volunteer in the cat department at two shelters.
I never became a crazy cat lady ~ Baby, I was born this way!
