S & N, thanks my friend. Guess we can stop wondering why humanity is getting so screwed up and why youths are going out on massive slaughters. Look at what they are learning. Children learn what they live.

Ty Cher ~ and hearts to all in Care2 Community for solace while learning disturbing news each day. . .

More collective ignorance to confound the senses . . .

“The squirrel that you kill in jest, dies in earnest.” —Henry David Thoreau

“One of the most dangerous things that can happen to a child is to kill or torture an animal and get away with it.” —Margaret Mead

“Cruelty, like every other vice, requires no motive outside of itself; it only requires opportunity” ―George Elliot

“The thinking person must oppose all cruel customs no matter how deeply rooted in tradition or surrounded by a halo….We need a boundless ethic which includes the animals also.” —Albert Schweitzer

“Whether hunting is right or wrong, a spiritual experience, or an outlet for the killer instinct, one thing it is not is a sport. Sport is when individuals or teams compete against each other under equal circumstances to determine who is better at a given game or endeavor. Hunting will be a sport when deer, elk, bears, and ducks are…given 12-gauge shotguns. Bet we'd see a lot fewer drunk yahoos (live ones, anyway) in the woods if that happened.”—R. Lerner, letter, Sierra, March-April 1991

Chop-chop the Stooopid Avarice Road and onto the Beauty haste...warp...godspeed. . .

"The Indian loved to worship. From birth to death he revered his surroundings. He considered himself born in the luxurious lap of Mother Earth and no place was to him humble. There was nothing between him and the Big Holy. The contact was immediate and personal, and the blessings of Wakan Tanka flowed over the Indian like rain showered from the sky. Wakan Tanka was not aloof, apart, and ever seeking to quell evil forces. He did not punish the animals and the birds, and likewise He did not punish man. He was not a punishing God. For there was never a question as to the supremacy of an evil power over and above the power of Good. There was but one ruling power, and that was Good."

". . .The world was a library and its books were the
stones, leaves, grass, brooks, and the birds and
animals that shared, alike with us, the storms and
blessings of earth. We learned to do what only the
student of nature ever learns, and that was to feel
beauty. . . .Life was vivid and pulsing; nothing was
commonplace. . ."

Teton Sioux]

As stupid as this event is, I cannot believe children will be allowed to hold a rifle and shoot squirrels. The author had to get it wrong.

Please stop encouraging children to slaughter mother squirrels. Children should be taught to love and respect squirrels. I strongly urge you to cancel the squirrel slaughter contest forever.
