The "hands-on" compactor makes us think about trash. Even this simple interaction with the trash receptacle helps "show [kids] how much trash they produce."

Never saw the use for these things ~ it all still goes into a landfill. Between recycling and composting we don't have much left. Besides, our was broken when we bought this house.....

I can barely fill one shopping bag per week, and that is mostly plastic anyway. What my poultry don't consume goes into the worm box.My grease trap is regularly emptied into a trench in the paddock. An elderly lady,who lived most of her life on a country property eventually, when widowed, moved into the local town. She placed every scrap of waste into a hole, dug as needed, in the garden beds. It wasn't too long before she had the best looking garden in the street. Sadly she too is now in a hole, which doesn't improve that bit of soil one bit.
