Growling is an early warning system. Your job is to figure out what's wrong.

My dogs are all determined to warn me of anything they interpret as danger. Since I am alone most of the time in a fairly remote area, I listen to them! I would never dream of reprimanding them ~ they are showing their devotion by protecting me.

My dog growls when he and I are alone, and I pay attention. One thing that bothers me is when he growls at a man in uniform???
Good points for all to remember!

Dogs unaccustomed to uniforms do growl at post men. UPS . and Fed Ex men. Dogs who live in war torn countries who see soldiers all the time do not. It's really interesting.

Even seeing growling dogs I end up thinking, "so cute"

That is very important to remember with it being a warning and that if you punish them for growling they are less likely to give a warning when they are angry or upset and may go straight to biting.

Good to know even though my little guy is so placid, helps me to understand other dogs on our walks or in the parks.
