Every year, tens of thousands of American horses are crammed into livestock trailers and trucked to slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico--and we may soon see slaughterhouses opening in states like New Mexico and Oklahoma. After a long and frightening

Signed and Shared with my own message on FB. It is imperative that the public take action on this important bill (SAFE). Once slaughterhouses for horses are established in the U.S. , it will be a battle to once again get them shut down. There are many reasons why they should be banned once more with no question. The suffering in ANY slaughterhouse is undeniable, a horse slaughterhouse has been shown to be one of ultimate cruelty toward this "fight or flight" creature. The flesh is poison, tainted with drugs known to be cancer-causing agents to humans..and what about the RISE of cancer in dogs that no doubt have consumed this in their foods. With the USDA being cut back from federal funds and inspections being cut back in other slaughterhouses..why would horse slaughter even be CONSIDERED from a health point of view? But - my view comes from the fact that horses simply are not and never were intended to be a food source. Please do your own research. Watch YouTube videos on horse slaughter. This noble creature and it's offspring should never grace a plate in a U.S. household or dining establishment. America is swimming in blood...common sense needs a fast track back to reality..

Gladly signed. These magnificent creatures should be sent to a sanctuary to live out their lives in peace. They have worked hard and deserve it. They are not disposable and should not have to be scared, shot in the head, lung by one leg and have their throats slit. All because of greedy people making a profit off of horse meat, which they are not fed to be consumed as food. This needs to stop. Animal cruelty is getting worse and worse and laws need to be changed to protect these innocent victims. Even ones that advocate for protecting animals don't always do the best thing for the animals.

One has to remember, that without horses over thousands of years, we could not have been around. Wait, it is that easy to imagine. They fought for us thousands of wars along with our soldiers. There is not a single memorial erected anywhere for them, not a single line written about their glorious fights.
They have been working along with humans and for humans for thousands of years.
It is sad to see, such caring and lovely animals declared as being useless and sent to slaughter houses.
This has to stop.
Please stop this.
Have mercy on them.
All mega slaughter factories should be eliminated. In there work people that are exploited and profits are pouring into the pockets of the owners who are not human.

Singed it yesterday. I am shocked. No animals should be used for food, especially not horses. These are beautiful creatures and it makes me sick to think this is allowed to happen.

If you want to avoid the long transports of horses allow them to be slaugthered locally.

What do you think happens to unwanted horses if not slaughtered?

The horse shelters are more than full and having a vet take care of it and disposing of the carcass is expensive, so what happens is that throngs of unwanted horses are left to fend for themselves till they eventually starve.

For heaven's sake, let the horses live! They are intelligent, beautiful, and good natured animals, and even if the automobile has outshone the horse, a car is not a companion or friend. It's just a machine. But a horse is a loyal and loving, living being. Hang in there, horses!
