Dr. Packer's goal is to save lions. Fencing them in, away from people and livestock, is the best way to do that, he believes, both for conservation and economics. He made that argument in a paper this month in Ecology Letters, along with 57 co-authors,

I see the rational logic in this thinking, but some how it is also deeply disturbing.

no, it does not sound right.... and I think it is not true as well.....they thrive in the wild - there are enough places where humans do not interfere with them

Again it begs the question, to what purpose? If they can't live free to roam as nature intended, then what is the value in preserving their lives? With the human population explosion we will, eventually, run out of space of all G8d's creatures.

Some of the lion prides depend on antelope migrations. Any fences that would keep the lions in would necessarily interrupt those migrations routes. Can't have it both ways.

I can see how fencing in may save a species...and I guess better to save some than have them all perish.

I agree with Kevin. It just is not quite as simple as putting fences around the lions.
Thank You for posting this article Cher.

A 13 year old boy in Kenya has come up with (what seems to be) a better solution:

Better to fence humans and stop them from breeding and destroying.
