The sickly, skinny Lab had been abused for years, authorities say. Luckily, she was found in time.

I do wonder about these horrible cases, some are the result of psycho paths having a pet. Many think they want a pet or companion, then find that they need attention, food, veterinarian care. That cute baby puppy or kitten is not as cute as full grown adult animal. They become the focus of anger by the person who cannot adequately provide for them. Children can often become the focus of this internal rage. I really do believe that we could many things by teaching teachers who can teach children how to properly redirect anger and feelings of being inadequate. Though currently, we seem a society on the edge of self destruction rather than renewal.

*change many things for the better by teaching teachers...* Sorry.

Sometimes I think people should have some sort of mentality test to own a pet Its sickening what you read and the world is getting worse you think people would be evolving but they are not only the few Maybe you should have to get your pet checked for free at a vets every six months so they can tell if its being abused I dont really know the answer but something needs to be done The world cannot keep letting all these animals suffer because of sick minded humans Someone has to take responsibility for the way animals are treated They cant keep turning a blind eye or passing the buck

For some people, being tied up, beaten to within an inch of their lives and left near a wasp's nest covered in honey is too good. Who ever did this is that person.

That is so disgusting. I cannot imagine why anyone would keep abusing their dog. If they do not want it, take it to a shelter.

If I lived closer I would welcome Brooke into our home even tho' we have 6 cats. She is an old doggie, probably looks older than she would if she'd been treated better. You can tell she'd be so happy with people who would baby her a bit. I've taken in older animals like Brooke in the past and they are amazingly grateful for everything. I hope she goes to deserving people. She will make their lives light up. As for whoever did this to her, what can I say? POS.

This poor sweet girl. In her long sad life, she finally got a break, just barely. Thank you to the wonderful couple , Mr. and Mrs. Erb, that saved her from a torturous fearful death. Many thanks to Sgt. Thomas Gaffney of the Bristol Police Department and the Bucks County SPCA for helping a defenseless innocent out.
I hope that sweet Brooke finally gets the medical attention, food and a family/person that will love her in safety for the rest of her years. She will love the people who love her with all her heart and being, she is so grateful.

I hope the broken person(s) who did this to her is found and prosecuted and fined to the fullest extent of the law. In a fair world, the favor of tying them to a rock in a rising river would be returned.

Kit, you are SO right - Wish I could give you a green star. This is such a sad story, but happens far too often. I think of all the others that are never saved or never have a good home or love and it just makes my heart hurt. There really does need to be more emphasis on compassion in our society and I really wish that "politically speaking" it would become a REAL talking point. I believe with all my heart, it is something that would save this world.

There are so many sick people in this world. This abuse is due to too many animals available in this world and people who have no right to have them are getting them. Those that breed their animals are responsible for this type of abuse as well as the mentally ill who are doing these acts.

The person that committed this horrific crime needs to be punished, that is true, but also the owner needs to be punished for the years that he starved, neglected and abused this poor dog! If it's the same person, then that person needs to be charged with two felony animal cruelty charges. And if it turns out to be the owner, then this would indeed, I would think, count as a lifetime of abusing animals (because he abused this dog for 8 years!) otherwise the police officer said this person would just be charged a fine?! That doesn't make sense to me. If he is the owner of this dog then he should be charged (in addition to trying to drown this poor animal) he should be charged with abusing animals and serving jail time too!
But, speaking in general terms (because this happens so frequently... tragically), I really feel that teachers need to teach children respect for all animals on this planet and also how to deal with anger in a way in which they donít inflict harm on others. These issues need to be incorporated in education- self-esteem, emotions, learning to deal with anger in a non destructive manner, the importance of empathy- this is part of the entire person that as a society we should not be ignoring as we have been doing for years with helpless animals and children who become victims of this pathological rage and are paying dearly! We need to treat the cause as well as the symptoms by addressing these issues in our schools or we will always be reading about the horrible consequences. Children must be taught important values and how to deal with emotions with destroying others!

Noted. That has to be one of the worst cases I've seen. The fact that, should they find the owner and determine that s/he hasn't repeatedly caused abuse it'll just be a fine, is a shame. Great to see the follow up they've done/are doing. Thanks.

It just breaks my heart to read about these poor mistreated animals and pray the owners don't have children. Perhaps how our animals are treated is a reflection of a society on a downward spiral. There seems to be no end to how badly children, women, and animals are treated throughout this world. I hope this lab finds a good home.

It is obvious that the person who had this poor dog, was a major abuser. How would you account for the tumor on the leg and they hard hearted way the dog was left. The couple who found her were the animal angels who came to her rescue. I wish her the best of everything and I wish the vermin that did this a very rapid trip to Hell to meet Satan, who is just like the vermin.

Brooke is so lucky to be alive thanks to the couple that found her. Now for her to spend the rest of her years happy and no worries of ever getting hurt again.
How Sick is this! Torture the frickin person(s) that did this to her! But since we can't do that, we need to all share and share this some more until these idiots are found and hope that they will get charged big time! Damn humans that have no feelings or hearts!

I am so sick and tired of the horrendous atrocities against animals that every day I pray, please God, rid the earth of the brutal, savage filth that permeates this earth. Poor labby, how can anyone live with themselves knowing what they have done. No fines, no jail time for this bastard please - take this despicable monster and do the same to them. People like this should not be allowed to see another sunrise.

Why, oh why do people do things like this to poor animals? Perhaps they did not have the money to have the dog put down, but what a cruel and heartless way to reward the years of love and devotion she undoubtedly gave her previous owner(s).
