Pets aren't allowed on U.S. military bases in Afghanistan. At least not officially.

The power of love. Thanks for this special story, though not exactly legal, soldiers have been finding and keeping pets during war time for many, many years.

Every soldier should have a cat or dog...win-win situation - helping each other!

I suspect the policy is based on the thought that pets might be a distraction which might come between a soldier and his duty. We know so much more about human-animal relationships now which disproves that concept. No doubt the commanders who looked the other way did so because they could see Koshko was a help and not a hindrance to Jesse's doing his duty. Of course the entire policy should be reexamined in the light of improved knowledge anyway.

Beautiful story. I think God sends us the animals we need in our lives. It's up to us to accept God's offer or refuse what he sent us.

wow, these are my favorite kind of stories :) seems animals really have a therapeutic effect on people, especially in times of need. my brother was also deployed to Afghanistan and he and other soldiers always had "adopted" several dogs over the course of his deployment

Just shows the power that an animal has a forgotten cat in Afghanistan saves a human from killing him shelf in a hell hold deployment in Afghanistan an the only thing the cat had to offer was "LOVE" an all the cat wanted in return was "LOVE" we humans can learn a thing or too from this story about "TRUE" love not human love which comes with a price tag an from a store. =^..^=
