Play is essential to a cat's mental and physical well-being! It's also important for my well-being. I am home today in desperate need of therapy ~ and we are all indulging each other nicely!! A joint me-time session!

Wonderful pics - beautiful kitties! I'm guilty - my cat is 12 lbs now ( she is almost 6 yrs and was 8 lbs when I rescued her 5 yrs ago). She just got her vet visit and he said she is great and has alot of muscle so it would be great if she lost 1-1/2 lbs over the next 2 yrs. I tried giving her just a little less food and she is NOT happy. That means more play. I tried adopting a companion - again, she is NOT a player. She has a million toys but will mostly only play if I play with her...laser pointer is fun but the very best are her feather toys - Da Bird! She freaks out when I get them out. It seems to be something she can stalk and run after and sink her teeth into versus the laser. I'm very happy when I hear her crashing thru all 3 floors of my condo. I built her a lookout, comfy place in one of the windows on the 3rd floor where she can watch the birds, bugs, squirrels, rabbits and people walking their dogs. But I still worry that she is bored...I SO wish she'd let me adopt another rescue! We'll see what the future brings.

All good reasons,
but I never needed a reason to just do what love commanded me to; pay attention to my kitties, and whenever possible play, cuddle, carry, snuggle, watch nature programs on tv together, talk human talk and kitty talk to them, (they really like that!), and just look at them with affection.

No reason - but just wanted to !!!

I play daily with my 3 cats. For them, the favoured game is fetch with a ball of paper. I'll toss it and sometimes they smack it back at me, like playing baseball. Sometimes I throw it and all 3 go after it at once. It resembles a rugby scrum. They will also go after catnip toys but my one cat chews through everything so I restrict it to paper now. My oldest, who weighs 28.6 pounds, jumps about 4 feet up the door jam presumably after some invisible taunt. We do love our play time and our snuggles. But one thing is for sure --- gentle, gentle. No rough treatment, no bloodletting!

Most of us have spent a fortune on toys our cats don't like. Then they destroy the toys they like. That's life in Feline City.

if I had one I would as I love cats too, but I have a doggy who would like to eat a cat, so no cat's while he's still kicking.

It 'absolutely true. My baby Mia is like a child, she needs to play, and then to observe the world from her basket on the terrace, eat something, drink and then go to the other basket inside to sleep. When is the time of the game, if I don't pay attention to her she meows insistently, she loves in particular when I I throw a ball of soft rubber, which then brings me back like a dog :)))))) but she has a lot of toys, she has just to choose which type or color. Flawed!!!!! :)
