State and federal agencies are considering four proposed coal terminals that would export millions of tons of coal mined in Montana and Wyoming to coal-fired power plants in Asia -- but only after the coal travels through Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

Alternative energy, stop suppressing it just to suck money out of the people and rape the planet.

Along the Washington/BC border near Sumas, there were to be coal fired plants on the US side that would have dumped pollution into BC, particularly particulates that cause asthma etc. These were vigorously opposed by BC residents. Unfortunately I don't know how successful the protests were.

In BC, coal trains travel down from northeast BC to a coal port in Delta BC at the delta of the Fraser river. There it is exported over seas for more pollution.

As a child, we had a coal furnace (yes I am that old!) which I remember as the dirtiest place ever. The door had to be kept closed, especially on coal delivery day because otherwise this insidious cloud of black dust would rise up into the house.

We need to make some pressure over the authorities in order to they fight for people's best interest, instead of fight for big money interests.

Lynn Squance and I are from the same era.....and thank goodness our brains still remember how it was when coal was king.....Black soot everywhere 24/7...My backyard was a stones throw from the steel mills and coal mines......I do not know why....after over 100 years there is not a safe and cleaner way to transport coal......??? On the other hand, how does China deal with the soot etc from burning coal.?????
