I am troubled that St. Louis Children's Hospital and Washington University still use cats and ferrets to teach Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) trainees how to intubate a baby's windpipe. Students drive plastic tubes down the fragile windpipes

With your action, animals are seen and heard.

"The assumption that animals are without rights and the illusion that our treatment of them has no moral significance is a positively outrageous example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality." ―Arthur Schopenhauer

Why don't these students ever protest against these sadistic research methods?? That really bothers me. Are all the students without feeling+compassion...that to me is extremely disappointing. Def signed, thx Cher.

First, on a purely practical level--the anatomy is MARKEDLY different from that on human babies. So sll they've learned is how to intubate a cat, but not a human baby. The simulators, on the other hand, are identical to humans ans can be reused over and over. Again, purely practical, the number crunchers should see that simulators are cost effective.

Natasha--you wonder why the students don't protest? In no paticularal order-
whitle blowers can lose their internships. Med students are the most sleep-deprived and hyperstressed creatures on Earth. They Might manage to protest human testing, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Used to be they would practice drawing blood on each other....how about doing it on each other? At least then you would quickly know if you are hurting the patient!!
They are too cowardly to try it on an unsedated cat with claws?

Signed. Not only is it unbelievably cruel but it has been proven time and time again, that using animal anatomy does not accurately teach us about our own anatomy. I feel like I've been typing this a lot lately but...THERE ARE HUMAN SIMULATORS AVAILABLE TO TEACH STUDENTS!!! Please start to use them and release these animals so they can experience some sort of peace!!

what do these people get out of being unbelievably cruel, there is no justification for this to happen , humans as a race have to change fast we kill and mame for no reason its absolute insanity i want to get these people and ram a pipe down their throat, my mum had a hiatus hernia and every month she had to have her gullet stretched with a pipe which was pushed down and blown up , she couldn`t eat for at least 3 days and was left very sore and tender don`t these people think of these things or is it oh never mind there are plenty more kittens in the sea well there are plenty more humans and we can do without the cruel kind thanks for reading

Signed & noted, thanks Cher. I live in the St. Louis, Mo. area, &, I'm appalled that they're still using such barbaric teaching methods! According to the school, they are "not hurting the animals, they are under anesthesia & don't feel anything, & are fine when they wake up"???? Try using superior, alternative methods, or, better yet, start testing things intended for humans, on humans!
