Every year, we're fishing more and more smoothhound sharks, and there's no limit on how many animals can be caught. But instead of ensuring healthy populations of these sharks, the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission is making life even more

The shark fin soup is a succulent dish of oriental cuisine.
That's why we Italians ignoring the cruel practice of "shark finning", or cutting the fins of sharks while they are still alive, then if the whole animal is not interested, fishermen thrown back into the sea the body of the shark, often still alive.
Each year in the world are captured seventy million sharks for a total proceeds of a billion dollars.
A huge figure, grown especially since the 80s, even for the widespread dissemination of Chinese restaurants all over the globe.
At the Hong Kong market a kilo of shark can cost $ 390 while in Europe, where people mainly eat its meat only, the price drops dramatically to $ 9 per pound.
The European Commission has presented a legislative proposal to permanently delete the finning, recommended by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the United Nations and scientists, mainly because it would save sharks from extinction.
To oppose at this legislative proposal there is Spain and Portugal the only two EU countries that continue to practice finning as traditional trading partners of the Oriental countries.
