Do to habitat loss there are now butterfly farms that raise the butterflys for the trade. Ho0pefully these amazing specimens can be included in the farm raised protected environment.

I enjoy the fact that the lists of giant insects doesn't end with the winged ones discussed here. The Giant Weta of New Zealand gets to be larger than the palm of your hand. It is known to eat carrots when hand fed. Oh MY...

I was at the nature museum in Lincoln Park when a butterfly landed on my hand. It was a giant black and white one. It wouldn't leave my hand either. I think he's the love of my life!

I once was blessed with seeing a Blue Morpho butterfly in Costa Rica just flapping seemingly lazily down the road, making a brief stop on my friend's head while we were biking. It was huge, or so I thought but the only have about 8 inches for a wing-span while the ones in the post have 12 inch spans.

Noted, tweeted, shared, tweeted, shared. Whenever we doubt the majestic beauty of nature, all we have to do is look at a butterfly. I hope we don't destroy one of the most beautiful life forms on our planet. God certainly knew what he was doing when he created the butterfly.
