A Two-Faced Cat Became a Freak Show Exhibit, and That Makes Me Sad

Deucy lived only two days but during that time got 17.8 million Google results. Why? For the same reason people went to carnival sideshows.

I saw this on a t.v. news show a few days ago. The news anchors were laughing and acting like it was very amusing. I won't watch them anymore. What is wrong with people? Terribly sad.

I told you this would happen the first time I saw the story. The *freaks* aren't the so-called freaks ~ the freaks are the people that couldn't wait to laugh and have a great time enjoying a tragic situation.

There is no excuse for harrassing this poor cat. The truth is that if someone/something doesn't meet what people think is normal, it has to be talked about, pictures show everywhere and full blown harrassment. What in God's name would you have called what was done to all these so called "freaks" in the side show? It sure isn't normal to put "freaks" on view and then to make money from them. These animals/people are made by God and he didn't intend for us to make a side show or any other fuss except to accept them as He does.

Don't know how it first "leaked" to the media? Really? Only those close in proximity knew so, again, how?

Not surprised it went viral as yet another sensation satisfying the sick masses of the populous. What a shame this group outweighs all that is good and compassionate. My hope is that somehow, somewhere in their lives they are similarly "exhibited" so as to feel the cruel and total impact of such disregard.

Poor little kitten. There was no reason for exploiting this innocent little baby. Some people want their 15 minutes of fame no matter who it harms. The anchors are ignorant and heartless.

There are good and bad sides to the internet and what people post and how those posts are received. Gone are the days when people would share pictures with only family and friends. Now the world has access to what happened to a kitten in some small town.

Perhaps people should start thinking about the ramifications of posting their whole lives on the internet. You can't control people (most of whom are idiots, especially when they can anonymously say anything) or their insensitive reactions.

I read that this precious soul had passed away. God bless it's soul. The kitten was exploited for money, but on the other hand, it shows that things like this can happen and people don't have to be afraid of the different.

I’m sorry, but I can’t really see any reason to get emotional and condemn all of humanity over this.

The kitten was born deformed: the mother rejected it. The owner raced it to the vet and tried to keep it alive with bottle feeding - every 2 hours.

So you have a mother cat rejecting a kitten, which is nature, and you have a responsible owner who contacted the vet promptly and valiantly tried to save its life.

Deformity is a curiosity, and humans - like most other intelligent mammals - are curious. We like to see unusual things (you can call it ‘gawking’, but that’s a deliberate twist of language to manipulate people to view something negatively): we are naturally fascinated with the bizarre and the unusual. Are we dealing with our own fear of the different and alien? Sometimes people laugh in these circumstances, but it is a laugh caused by disturbance and uncertainty. Sometimes ‘bravado’, trying to look unfazed and unruffled, but it is a facade.

Please don’t condemn curiosity, or embarrassed responses to a dramatic mistake of nature. If the kitten suffered it was only because the owner gave it a chance at survival, so let’s not look for blame or reasons to be outraged. There is no exploitation or abuse - why do you always look for it?

What a horrible, horrible thing to do to that poor animal. I just KNEW some sadist would somehow acquire a two-headed cat or two-faced cat and do that to it. It doesn't make me sad, it makes me furious to think that someone would take an innocent animal and exhibit it as a freak! God damn the slimebag who's done this, and may their evil and heartlessness backfire on them big time.

Lynda G (122)

What exactly did anyone do to it, Barbara? Who “acquired” it? It was born, and the owner tried to save it because the mother rejected it. Nobody did anything to it except look at it on the internet. It IS a freak. A freak of nature, and people are curious, not heartless. The kitten was not put in a circus sideshow and left to die: it died in the hands of the owner after 2 days of life. What is the problem? Who deserves your fury and damnation - for what?

Diane L (110)

Exactly, Lynda. There were TWO other C2 discussions about this kitten, and both had few comments "other than" wishes for it to have a long and happy life. They're actually still commenting "as such" in one of them, clueless that the kitten died days ago!

No exploitation was done. The owner of the kitten did everything possible to save it's life, took it to the vet and was on TV with it in a blanket, saying how much they loved it and wanted it to live. That's not exploitation! That's certainly not doing anything harmful, so not sure where your ranting is coming from, Barbara!

Also, to those who commented about news "anchors" laughing, not sure what channels/news networks you watch, but I saw this story on my ABC affiliate and nobody was laughing. The kitten was born in another state, the story aired originally on a TV station near where the owner lived and my affiliate (and I'm sure the other 2 in my area picked it up as well) the news anchors did nothing but relate what had gone on, and so what if they smiled on camera? They're not being paid to scowl or make nasty faces. Nobody laughed, nobody smiled, actually.

Honestly, reading the comments in here (I was e-mailed by a friend about the over-reactions of people in this discussion, so had to check it out), I'm shocked that so many seem oblivious to the fact this kitten stood next to NO CHANCE to survive and that the owner tried extreme measures to save it. They're called "Janus" kittens and apparently, this happens every once in-awhile, and almost 100% of the time, the mother will reject the kitten. That's how Mother Nature works when a radically deformed animal is born.
