Even though a traditional cardboard crate isn't the least sustainable form of packaging you'll find at the supermarket, designer Maja Szcypek has put forth a new concept for an even more eco-friendly packaging design for eggs.

I'm not too sure my PA dairy farmers would be happy about using up hay this way and to me it doesn't look too appealing. We just recycle ours down to the farm and back anyway.

What an interesting concept.

Interesting - how much would a dozen eggs go up? Personally, I send my egg cartons over to the food shelf, via our grocery store. Thanks for the novel approach to egg cartons.

Interesting, but not interested in taking feed away from the animals when there are many other recycled materials that could be used. Plus they look nasty and would liter up my fridge.

It's what the eggs were layed in...I question how they would be safely packaged.

It's different, but I don't consume eggs.

Seem like a good idea, but need work on their bulkiness.

I don't think this is a particularly good idea.

Interesting concept, however I don't think our farmers here in Alberta would go for the idea. Twice now their has been a shortage off hay in the south and areas from the north have supplied their extra hay to them.
