makes me furious - we try so hard to preserve and protect and then we confine animals and expose them to MORE danger sad

This is terribly sad. Devastaing news and many more are still suffering. I can't imagine what everyone at this sanctuary is going through . With others still sick they have to be suffering. Distemper.. I hope that no others die.
I appreciate the post. It's so many that have died and ongoing.

It breaks my heart!! This mutant virus is so deadly and contagious ~ and there's nothing for it but trying supportive care. The Wildlife WayStation in California lost almost 20 cats and 2 died at the Shambala Preserve. An Illinois Zoo also lost 2 leopards.
Who could have seen this coming? And what could have been done about it anyway?

Carol, what's really sad is that it's killing cats in the wild too! There've been many cases reported in India in particular. A similar strain of canine distemper has also been reported in pandas, ferrets, seals and dolphins.

Thank you for sharing the tragic news of the deaths of the tigers in a wildlife refuge in Texas. They don't belong in Texas!

Sadly noted and heartbreaking to hear of the loss of all the animals from distemper,i rescued a dog that had been run over here in the UK and took him to the vets and was going to give him a loving home as he was a stray but sadly he had distemper and was put to sleep i was so upset as he had never known love and kindness and never got the chance to be shown what it was like to be loved. Thanks Cher.Liz Xx

This is very sad. It's been an issue around the world for a while now. A couple of months ago I read an article about a canine distemper virus world expert who was offering his help to vets etc who were caring for tigers that were affected. Here's the link to the story for anyone who would like to read it:
