What sort of fabulous new energy systems will the world possess in 2040? Which fuels will supply the bulk of our energy needs? And how will that change the global energy equation, international politics, and the planet's health?

Reducing population and energy demands may be critical. Scientists have fairly well established that alternative energy sources will only provide about 20% of our CURRENT demand. We would have to sacrifice enormous amounts of land (i.e. open spaces, wildlife habitat, parkland) to meet even a fraction of projected energy demands.

It is up to the people to make the changes. Tell the government to fund green energy. Then you vote with your wallet. Put those PV panels on your roof. Put that solar hot water panel on your roof. But L$D bulbs and Energy Star appliances. Replace that gas guzzler with a hybrid or electric vehicle. My bother lives in Maine. He has put the solar hot water panels on his roof. He has reduced his heating oil consumption to ZERO by combining this system with his wood pellet stove.

I agree with Hartson, that it's up to us to make these positive changes. If we were to wait for our government, we'd be waiting forever. I'm trying my best and if we each do, our Earth will be a much happier planet. Thanks Cher
