Simple actions like switching off the lights or turning down the thermostat can lead to substantial savings. Studies suggest that behavioral change alone (without any updates to technology) can result in 5 to 20 percent carbon emissions savings

From what I have read, keeping your thermostat at one temp. can save you more money than constantly adjusting it.Again, tips from my electric co. say, turning lights off and on create a greater power surge than leaving them on. Do I believe the energy company?

all these problems we see on care2 and elsewhere would not be happening if we did not have explosive human growth... back in the 60's there was a strong zero population growth movement which was shot down politically by our 'leaders' whose thought processes are blinded by self interest and the insane idea that continual growth is absolutely necessary. What we all need is new leaders who can trust us to accept the truth & respond in mature humane ways - especially those of us in the USA that how we have been living is unsustainable and work out new ways to live that will work for us all. We all have it in us - we are all great - we need to tell all those confused people in power that they either have to get real or get out!

From population growth to fossil fuels I've often wondered just how much oil exploration and fracking has lately contributed to climate change. There is of course another program which is not only regional but now operates on a global business. It had its conception and original application in the oil industry, allowing for locating those difficult to find deposits. It was sold to the US military back in the 80s and HAARP was launched in 1990. All conspiracy theories aside it does make me wonder just how much their ionospheric experiments are responsible for the increase in severe weather that we are now experiencing. Frankly I think it is a whole bunch of conditions and factors converging at once and we haven't seen the worst yet. Yes we are the authors of our own destruction.
