Traditional medicine in China has Indian poachers slaughtering Bengal Tigers in greater numbers and shipping their body parts up north for cold hard cash.

There's tigers, bears, big cats, just about any animal on earth, even snakes, are used in some sort of "traditional" medicine around the world. Difficult to combat word-of-mouth handed down through generations old remedies used by their neighbors, friends, government officials, or just word passed along by travelers. These were, and some still are, usually uneducated people in, or from, rural areas. How to counteract what has been going on for decades, perhaps even hundreds of years.

Then there are those who have exhausted all modern medicine for dibilitating diseases, seeking cures, or maybe even just a little relief, grasping any straws available...and the Baddies who exploit the sick and/or dying.

Of course, that doesn't account for wealthy educated people who have the money to blow on these folk remedies for whatever reasons, maybe boredom or a 'lark'. Have a suspicion that these are the ones most animals are being poached for. The poor can't afford the prices being charged now that most of the wildlife used is almost extinct in most cases.

I think the title is misleading. Need laws that prosecutes anyone with any tiger parts. Then these laws need to be enforced.

Chinese health nuts are the biggest threat? I think not. People are the biggest threat. The health nuts are just one more way to exploit tigers.

To China I say. come into the 21st century and stop using endangered animals for your self centered purposes.

Oh, I am so tired of China skinning our cats and dogs on the streets and then they're guilty of murdering their own tigers to make medicine out of them. I once was a big user of Tiger Balm, a muscle salve, and even though I read the ingredients w/a fine tooth comb on the back of the container, I could never find an ingridient that was tiger...I still stopped using it.

The need is for education, not deeming that part of humanity needs to be consigned to the trash heap.
Sadly it takes a long time and western civilization in other centuries did some nasty things as a matter of course.
Poaching must come to an end, enforcement and punishments have to have more focus and certainly there is one good use for drone technology to assist in the ending of poaching world-wide.

Can't we convince the health nuts in China that the floating island of garbage floating in the ocean would give them long life and "big" sex life if they each remove a piece of it?

I think the only hope for China is to educate the younger people. I know they do have animal activists. I have been signing petitions for at least 30 years....we can only keep pressuring the countries to enforce strict penalties..
a difficult dilemma when greed is involved.

I am so disgusted by these backward, ignorant, live in the past nation. Tiger parts offer up NO magical cures. It's just a money making proposition.

Tiger parts are sold at Chinese medicine shops in China, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Chinatowns in North America and Europe. According to Eugene Linden of Time magazine: “tiger bone remedies” are “so ingrained in these cultures that it is not certain their government could control the trade.” They need more education, starting with the youth of China to learn all the myths of animal parts for health etc. It is getting to the point that the United Nations needs to have a special force to catch these poachers and also the sellers. That way all countries belonging to the UN would have to participate.
